Carnegie Hall moves up in the world.

The NY Times has an excellent article today on local NYC piper Brian Meagher’s upcoming performance at Carnegie Hall with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and their rendition of “Orkney Wedding, with Sunrise.”

It’s refreshing to see a non-stupid, unridiculous article in a mainstream news publications that casts the Highland bagpipe in a serious light, as part of serious music, and not as the running novelty that so often gets reported. This is also one of the only articles one will ever see that mentions the EUSPBA, uncovering the fact that serious piping has serious organization behind it. Even Roddy MacLeod, principal of the National Piping Centre is quoted, as is EUSPBA presidente Joe McGonigal. Very nice.
